If I received a dollar for every time someone asks me about the movie Forty Year Old Virgin while in my waxing room for an appointment I would be a millionaire. That movie was hilarious, but not as realistic if the waxing technician knows what he or she is doing. Whether you are getting a bikini wax, brazilian, guyzilian, back or full body wax there will be some discomfort, but there should not be excruciating pain. After you are through with the appointment, you should be fine to carry on with your day.
It helps to take a pain reliever before your appointment. Some people take Ibuprofen or many waxing salons sell pain relieving gels and creams like the No Scream Cream. In my practice my clients prefer a numbing gel that we carry in the salon. It is applied 30 minutes before the appointment so it has enough time to help alleviate the discomfort.
It is very important to dress comfortably. Sometimes people tend to want to touch the area immediately after it is waxed, but that should be avoided because hands carry germs and the area needs to be kept as clean as possible. Avoid sexual intercourse for at least 24 hours after waxing the bikini area because of sensitivity. It is advisable that men use an antibacterial soap to bathe for several days after a back wax and avoid application of lotion to the area.
